The detection was made on the N20, Cork to Limerick road, during a bank holiday clampdown by gardai
A motorist who was caught driving at high speed on one of the most dangerous roads in the country is facing prosecution before the courts, gardai have confirmed.
Details of the incident, which happened on the N20 Cork to Limerick road, near Mallow in north Cork, were highlighted on social media over the weekend.
"We were conducting speed checks in Mallow when we spotted this motorist driving at 157km/hr in a 100km/hr zone," read the post which also confirmed the driver of the blue Honda Civic is facing prosecution.
It's understood the detection was made as part of a major garda operation which saw over 1,000 speeding detections being made across the country over the bank holiday weekend.
That operation began last Thursday and concluded at 7am this Tuesday.
