RTÉ Board member Daire Hickey has resigned from his role with the national broadcaster to “concentrate on other commitments”.

Hickey, co-founder of Web Summit and managing partner of New York-based 150 Bond, was appointed to the broadcaster’s board in July 2021 and served throughout the RTÉ payments scandal.

In a statement issued on Thursday evening, RTÉ said: "Daire Hickey has written to the Minister for Arts, Media, Communications, Culture and Sport,  Patrick O’Donovan T.D., to notify him of his resignation from the RTÉ Board.

“He has served as a member of the RTÉ Board since July 2021.”

On behalf of the RTÉ Board, Chair Terence O’Rourke said: “Daire has been a member of the RTÉ Board through some of the most challenging years in the organisation’s history.

“He has taken the decision now to stand down to concentrate on other commitments.

“We thank him for his service.”

A former journalist and alumnus of the Forbes 30 under 30 list, Hickey joined the board at the same time as TV producer Larry Bass, David Harvey and Sussan Ahern.

His five-year term on the board was due to end in July 2026.
