At lunchtime today, a school in Kerry saw over 200 pupils, along with their teachers, evacuated as a result of an electrical fire that broke out.

The fire alarm began to ring in Scoil Náisiúnta an Chuileannaigh, which alerted staff to the incident.

Promptly, both students and staff removed themselves from the building, as part of the school's fire evacuation plan, and reached safety at a nearby astro-turf pitch on the grounds.

The electrical fire occurred due to an issue within a fuse box, located in the school. Thankfully, a staff member was able to extinguish the flames, just before the Killarney and Killorglin Fire Stations arrived to intervene.

Paudie Mangan, Station Officer of Killarney Fire and Rescue Service told Ireland Live, "It was a minor fire around lunchtime, it was an electrical fault in the fuse board of the school. The alarms went off and everybody was evacuated. There was no major fire, as such. The school is closed for this evening, until they get electricians, or somebody in, to get the school back up, and active again."

No injuries were reported, and also in attendance at the scene were members of the National Ambulance Service and An Garda Síochána.
