Over one million cigarettes seized by Revenue in Waterford

The illicit cigarettes had arrived into Ireland from Rotterdam in 'an unaccompanied container'

Revenue seize 1.2 million cigarettes in Waterford

Revenue officers seized 1.2 million cigarettes this Monday, with an estimated value of €1,005,000 following the search of an unaccompanied container at Belview Port, Waterford.

The seizure took place this Monday, October 7 as a result of an intelligence-led operation.

The illicit cigarettes, branded ‘L & B’, had arrived into Ireland from Rotterdam and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €603,000.

Investigations are ongoing, according to a statement from Revenue.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply of illegal tobacco products.
