Young Cork man in induced coma in Italy after sudden illness

A fundraiser has been set up for a young Cork man who is in an induced coma in Italy.

Kevin Barry of Glanmire, Co Cork, became very ill while on holiday in Rome with his family.

The young man was rushed to emergency care on July 30 and has been in a medically induced coma since.

To help the family cover the medical costs, friends have set up a fundraiser, to which you can donate here.

“Many of you will know how much Kevin loves life, so to see him so ill has been a shock to us all. Kevin was rushed for emergency care on Tuesday the 30th of July, and he remains in a medically induced coma since. He has suffered severe pneumonia and septic shock, resulting in his organs failing. While making sure Kevin continues to receive the highest level of care and in addition to what insurance will cover, the family can expect significant costs related to the severity of this situation. These funds will help offset the financial burden that Kevin's family will encounter as a result of his illness,” said the GoFundMe organiser.

“We greatly appreciate the continued love and support, and we know Kevin’s family will be incredibly grateful for the kindness and generosity from friends, family, and strangers alike. Above all else, please keep Kevin in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers in hospital,” they added.
