Motorcyclist dies in M50 crash

A motorcyclist has died in a crash on the M50 in Dublin.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, involving a lorry and a motorcycle, on the northbound carriage between Liffey Valley junction and Castleknock.

The man, in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the lorry, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for assessment.

Gardai said the area was closed for a forensic examination but has since reopened.

The coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

Gardai appealed for witnesses to come forward, particularly road users who may have camera or dash-cam footage.

They said road delays would continue and asked drivers to take alternative routes where possible.

Dublin Airport told passengers that road journeys “are taking longer than usual” and advised using live route planning apps.

They tweeted: “As a result of the ongoing closure of the M50 and heavy traffic around Dublin, there is a shortage of taxis at the airport this afternoon.

“Passengers are advised to consider using one of the many bus routes servicing the airport.”
