Taoiseach Simon Harris will meet with Ursula von der Leyen to discuss Gaza ahead of next week’s EU Council summit.
He will meet with Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, as well as with President of the European Council Charles Michel, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola in Brussels and Warsaw.
The Taoiseach will use this opportunity to repeat Ireland’s call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and for all aid routes to be open.
As he became Ireland’s new Taoiseach, Simon Harris said his government will continue to press for a ceasefire in Gaza.
“In Gaza, we are witnessing humanitarian catastrophe. Men, women and children are being slaughtered and starved. We are not silent on Hamas's October 7 massacre but nor can we be silent on Israel's actions. As a country, we will do our part to bring about a ceasefire and lasting peace,” he said.
