National: Revenue seize over €3.6m of illicit cigarettes with help from detector dog Milo

Investigations are ongoing

Revenue officers seized approximately 4.32 million cigarettes with an estimated value of over €3.6 million at Dublin Port last week with the assistance of detector dog Milo.

As a result of risk profiling, the illicit cigarettes, branded ‘Rothmans’, were discovered in a container which had arrived from Rotterdam, the Netherlands and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €2,800,000.

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the sale and supply of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy.

If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
