Tributes have poured in for the victim of the sword attack in Cork, Ian Baitson, who is to be laid to rest today.
The father of two died aged 33 after being critically injured in a sword attack in Cobh, Co Cork, on March 19.
Ian's removal will take place this Wednesday, March 27, 12.30 pm to St. Colman’s Cathedral for 1pm.
Requiem Mass followed by cremation at the Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy. Ian’s Requiem Mass will be livestreamed here.
Since the tragic news broke out, tributes have been pouring in for Ian.
"We, Ian’s family, wish to thank our extended family and friends for their unwavering help and support throughout this hard time, Arian and Liam whose heroic efforts kept Ian with us so we were able to say our goodbyes, to his great friends Sarah and Gary for being constantly by his side for days that followed, Ian’s friends who travelled home from abroad to say their last goodbyes and to the staff of the ICU ward, the paramedics, gardai, surgeons and nursing staff who helped prepare us for the devastating loss of a beautiful and wonderful person," wrote the family in his obituary.
The father of two died on Tuesday afternoon at Cork University Hospital (CUH), following the assault, which occurred on Friday night at approximately 8.55pm in a car park on Newtown road.
