An investigation is underway after a woman’s body was recovered from a canal in Tullamore over the weekend.

Gardaí in Offaly say they are investigating all the circumstances following the discovery of the woman’s body earlier today.

“The woman, who is believed to be middle aged, was located at the Grand Canal, along the Srah Road in Tullamore. Gardaí arrived to the scene at around midday,” Gardaí said in a statement.

The woman’s body has since been removed to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore where a post-mortem is due to take place.

Gardaí said the results of the post-mortem will determine the course of their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station on 057 93 27600.
