A murder investigation is underway following the death of Ian Baitson, who was killed in a sword attack in Cobh, Co Cork.
Ian Baitson, aged 33, died after being critically injured in a sword attack in Cobh, Co Cork, on March 15.
The father of one died on Tuesday afternoon at Cork University Hospital (CUH), following the assault, which occurred on Friday night at approximately 8.55pm in a car park on Newtown road.
A post-mortem examination has now been carried out, and preliminary results have been provided to investigating Gardaí. Although results are not being released for operational reasons, Gardaí have now commenced a murder investigation.
A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) is leading the investigation, and a designated Garda Family Liaison Officer is providing continuous support to the family of the deceased, ensuring they are kept informed of developments.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward. Additionally, individuals who were traveling along the Newtown Road between 8:45 pm and 9:15 pm on Friday the 15th of March and possess camera footage, including dash-cam footage, are asked to provide it to investigating Gardaí.
