Gardaí have asked drivers not to warn other motorists of upcoming checkpoints.

"Garda checkpoints detect a large number of serious motoring offences including no insurance, disqualified drivers, intoxicated drivers, defective vehicles and indeed criminals going about their business, en route to or from a crime," gardaí said in a statement.
