'Profound tragedy': Vigil to take place in Waterford after tragic death of six-year-old boy

A prayer vigil will be held in Waterford after the tragic death of a six-year-old in Dunmore East.

The vigil will offer prayers to the grieving family and the wider community who have been affected by the heartbreaking loss.

The prayers will take place on Saturday, February 10 at 7pm at the Cathedral on Barronstrand Street.

“The loss of a young life is a profound tragedy that deeply affects us all. As a community, it is important for us to come together in prayer and reflection to offer comfort and strength to the family and friends of the young boy who has left us too soon,” said Bishop Alphonsus Cullinan, of Waterford and Lismore.

Gardai are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination, which will determine the course of their investigation into the death of a little boy, whose body was found in a car in Co Waterford.

A woman, aged in her 30s, was arrested after the body of the boy was found in the seaside area of Rathmoylan in the Dunmore East area, shortly after midnight this Friday.

Gardaí said that the course of the investigation will be determined by the post-mortem examination.

The six-year-old’s body has been removed to Waterford University Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and the scene is preserved for forensic and technical examination.

The woman was arrested at the scene and is being questioned at a Garda station in Co Waterford, under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The scene is preserved for forensic and technical examination, and the local Coroner and Office of the State Pathologist have been notified.
