Storm Isha: Speed restrictions on Irish Rail services to cause delays in worst hit counties

Irish Rail restrict speed on trains travelling through counties with Red Wind Warnings

Irish Rail have announced speed restrictions on a number of services in counties affected by the red weather warning associated with Storm Isha.

A 80km/h speed restriction will apply to all train services operating between Athlone and Galway, and between Athlone and Westport/Ballina from 5pm, Sunday, January 21.

This will result in service delays to Galway and Westport/Ballina services, however all trains are scheduled to operate, and all other routes will be unaffected.

Response crews will be operating on the network, and travelling on board trains to address any issues which arise.

Any further service impacts will be updated on the Iarnród Éireann website www.irishrail.ie and on Twitter @irishrail.

Customers are advised to allow extra time to reach stations in affected areas, and to consider if their journey is absolutely necessary.
