A Sligo driver was apprehended by gardaí after being caught going 61 km/h over the limit.

Having been stopped by gardaí, it was found that the driver was travelling 161 km/h in a designated 100km/h zone.

Gardaí used a state-of-the-art "mobility" device, which is designed to monitor and enforce speed limits to catch the driver.

The device, strategically placed on the roadside, detected the excessive speed of the offending vehicle, prompting immediate action from the authorities.

It was revealed that the driver not only exceeded the speed limit but was also disqualified from driving, adding another layer of seriousness to the offense.
