Shock as popular TV presenter confirms she's stepping away from role

Karen Koster explains 'simple reason' for stepping away from TV

A LONG-TIME host of a popular Irish talk show is finishing up their post on the peak-time TV programme.

Karen Koster is leaving her job as an RTÉ Six O’Clock show host after two years and retiring from VMTV after 20 years.

The famous TV presenter graced our television screens on both Ireland AM and the discontinued Xposé, which ran from 2007 to 2019.

The 42-year-old Irish-Dutch presenter announced the news on Monday evenings episode, November 13, saying that she has had “an absolute ball” while on the Six O’Clock show, alongside co-presenter and former rugby player, Greg O’Shea.

“After over two years here on the Six O’Clock show, I am going to finish up next week.

“I have had an absolute ball, but I am really just saying goodbye because I have to be at home more with my kids.”

Continuing on by thanking co-host Greg and saying previous hosts such as Martin King were also ‘incredible’, as well as guests, she said the production team, researchers and producers make the job ‘so easy and so enjoyable’.

“I am just missing too much of my kids' days when I am here in the afternoon and evenings, so I know my heart is right, even though I have agonised over this decision for months and months - I know this decision is the right one.

“I will still be lurking around to fill in if anyone needs a dig-out, but I am really looking forward to watching it at home at 6pm, passing the baton on!”

Concluding by saying she is now ‘glad’ to have the “weight off her chest”, Karen said she ‘knows’ that the show will go from “strength to strength”.
