Couples caught conjugating at historic rural cemetery

Couples conjugating at historic Limerick cemetery

Historic Athenacey cemetery in Elton, Co Limerick

A HISTORIC cemetery is proving popular with couples intent on more than just paying their respects.

“Unsavoury items” have had to be picked up off the ground at the Athenacey cemetery in Elton, a village in Co Limerick.

The area is privately owned and is "fenced off with hedges and trees to protect [the landowners] legal right” according to a burial ground staff member.

The burial ground sees 'very low usage' according to Cllr Eddie Ryan, with only five funerals taking there since 2017.
