The Curraghgowar Singers do a wide range of performances each year, including charity fundraisers
THE CURRAGHGOWAR Singers are hosting an open night this September for anyone interested in joining the choir.
The group is directed by Timothy Schinnick and based in Lisnagry National School, with members hailing from all over Limerick city and county.
They meet every Monday night from 7.10 pm to 9.30 pm, “with a break for a social chat and a cup of tea or coffee,” a spokesperson for the choir was quick to add.
Every year the choir performs at a number of choral events and raises much needed funds for various charities.
In the past these have included Enable Ireland, Rape Crisis Centre, the Adare Branch of the Irish Red Cross and other local charities.
“Last Christmas we had a very successful performance in the Holy Trinity Church in Adare which was a Dickensian Festival of Carols, Lessons and Poetry,” the spokesperson explained. “We had great fun dressing up in our bonnets and top hats for the occasion.”

They continued: “Each year we take part in the Annual Wild Geese Festival at the invitation of the Honorary Counsel of France Dr. Loïc Guyon and a highlight of our choral year is our participation in the National Day of Commemoration Ceremony in Limerick City Hall.
“This is a very moving and poignant celebration of remembrance with many ex- Servicemen in attendance.
“While we love performing we also like a good social night out with music and song. Each November we travel to The Rose Hotel in Tralee for a Choral Training Weekend. This entails line practices, group singing and lots of laughs along the way.”
If you are interested in joining “a friendly group of people who love to sing,” all are welcome to attend the choir’s open night on Monday, September 15at 7.10pm at Lisnagry NS.
No formal audition is required, just a "no-obligation open rehearsal".
