YET ANOTHER lorry has collided with a bridge in Limerick city while attempting to drive under it.

The vehicle struck Sarsfield Bridge as it was travelling through the underpass at Honan’s Quay yesterday evening, Wednesday, September 2.

It is unknown if the driver was injured as a result of the incident. The lorry was extensively damaged in the collision.

This particular section of road has become notorious due to the high number of large vehicles that become wedged underneath the bridge while attempting to drive through it.

In March of this year, two vans suffered the same fate within just over a fortnight of each other.

The first occurred on Tuesday, March 3, with the second taking place on Thursday, March 19. No injuries were reported from either incident but both vans were damaged as a result.

Reflective black and yellow stripes have been painted on the bridge to warn motorists.

There are also signs saying “Caution” and warning drivers that the maximum height is 2.5 metres.

There were minor traffic delays while the lorry was being removed.
