The US President is expected to make an appearance in Clare for the Amgen Irish Open on September 12

A LIMERICK District Court judge has made a rare comment on US President Donald Trump ahead of his upcoming visit to County Clare.

Judge Patricia Harney was presiding over the District Court this Tuesday and was in the midst of dealing with a case, where staff were attempting to fix a date for an upcoming hearing.

Prosecuting Sergeant Aishling O’Neill reminded the court that gardai would be in “difficulty” during the timeframe presented, with many being unavailable to give evidence.

Upon hearing this, Judge Harney said that it appears President Trump’s arrival to Ireland has added “yet another layer of complexity” to court proceedings. RTE have previously reported that the expected visit has been declared an extraordinary event, with garda leave being cancelled to ensure enough members of the force are available for, what is believed to be, a one-night only stay.

The US President is expected to make an appearance in Clare for the Amgen Irish Open on September 12- which is being held at his Trump International Golf Links & Hotel, Doonbeg. However, there has been no official confirmation by White House staff.

Judge Harney’s comment also follows on from months of major delays within Limerick District Court, and beyond, due to the ongoing legal aid dispute between criminal defence solicitors and the Department of Justice. As a result of this, a high volume of Limerick city solicitors have continued to withdraw their services.
