Man found with drugs on Limerick bus

A MAN has admitted having a significant quantity of drugs while travelling on public transport.
Over €1,000 worth of drugs was discovered in the possession of a passenger who had alighted from a bus which had stopped in Newcastle West.
Maciej Pieterzyk, aged 29, of The Archways, Newcastle West pleaded guilty to the possession of the drugs for sale and supply.
Inspector Gearoid Thompson, prosecuting, said on July 13, 2022, gardai searched the defendant under warrant as he exited a Bus Eireann bus at South Quay in the town.
“A quantity of cannabis was found in his bag. He made full admission to have cannabis for sale or supply. It was valued at €1,024. He didn’t hide from anything in fairness to him,” said Insp Thompson, who added that Mr Pieterzyk has a previous conviction for possession of drugs.
Michael O’Donnell, solicitor, asked the court to note his client had pleaded guilty, made admissions and cooperated with gardai.
“He said he purchased it for €500 in Limerick city. He was supplying it to friends - it was a kind of a group contribution,” said Mr O’Donnell.
The solicitor said Mr Pieterzyk has dealt with his problem with cannabis and is seeing a counsellor in Limerick.
“He had a very bad accident on a motorbike. He used cannabis for stress and anxiety and pain - I know there are other drugs.
He has come a long way in dealing with his drug problem,” he said.
Judge Carol Anne Coolican sought a pre-sanctioned report from the Probation Service before adjourning the case until May.
