Christmas carols will take place in a Limerick village in support of charity

AN ANNUAL Christmas carol event for those in need is set to take place in a Limerick village.

The Annacotty Annual Christmas Carol Singing for the needy has been launched in conjunction with the Redemptorists Christmas Poor Appeal.

Paula Ryan, organiser, said: "It is such an important event and it is aimed in ensuring that children, of families in Limerick who are struggling, will be assured of a gift at Christmas."

The event, a longstanding tradition, which has run for the last three decades, is set to take place on Sunday, December 4 at 6pm in Annacotty Village.

As part of the appeal, organisers are asking those who are attending to buy a toy of any value or give a donation, either of which can be brought along to the caroling on the night.

Paula is hoping that family and friends from across Limerick can make it on the night in support of a "very worthy charity event" as well as providing those with an opportunity to experience the "true meaning of Christmas" in Annacotty Village.

She has also hinted that Santa may pay a quick visit to children in attendance on the night.

The event is being run in conjunction with the Redemptorists Annual Christmas Hamper Appeal.

As part of the appeal, Fr Seamus Enright, Rector of the Redemptorists in Limerick, is asking that cash, food and toys be donated to the Monastery Reception in Mount Saint Alphonsus in Limerick city.

Fr Enright thanked the Limerick community for their support down the years, adding: "Let's leave no one behind this Christmas."
