Rathkeale has taken a significant step toward a more vibrant and sustainable future with the official launch of the Rathkeale Town Centre First (TCF) Plan.
Locals, county councillors and school children were a sample of the crowd that attended the launch in the Rathkeale house hotel.
The initiative, developed by the Rathkeale Town Team in partnership with Limerick City and County Council, forms part of the national Town Centre First strategy aimed at rejuvenating towns and villages through local leadership and evidence-based planning.
Speaking at the launch, Mayor of Limerick John Moran said the Plan “reflects the voices of local people” and sets out practical steps to unlock Rathkeale’s full potential. He highlighted the importance of strengthening connections to the Limerick Greenway and creating a safer, more inclusive environment.

The Plan outlines a long-term vision to strengthen the town’s economy, celebrate its heritage and enhance quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors. Developed through extensive consultation with local organisations, businesses, community groups and public bodies, it highlights a series of priority projects designed to reinvigorate the town centre.
Key actions include upgrading public spaces, supporting enterprise and tourism, improving pedestrian and cycling links, encouraging the reuse of vacant buildings, and protecting Rathkeale’s cultural and historical identity.
Councillor of the Adare–Rathkeale Municipal District, Stephen Keary, described the plan as “ a culmination of 12 months of commitment by the towns team and the community of Rathkeale".
Limerick City and County Council Director General Dr Pat Daly said the strategy offers “a clear blueprint for revitalising the heart of Rathkeale,” while Pat Neville, Chairperson of the Rathkeale Community Council, said it represents “the start of a brighter future for the town.”
