Limerick wind ensemble set to blow their audience away
The group will be joined by special guests for their debut concert
The Thomond Wind Ensemble, a new collective of 50 musicians from across the Mid-West region, is set to make its debut this weekend.
This launch event promises “an unforgettable afternoon of wind music and community celebration”, under the skilled baton of local conductor, musician, and educator, Dr Andrew Jordan.
The Thomond Wind Ensemble was formed with a mission to create a platform for local musicians to perform at an advanced level and offer a “rich and vibrant” musical experience to the community.
Composed of musicians from Limerick and surrounding areas, the ensemble is dedicated to showcasing local talent and “fostering a sense of unity through the joy of performance”.
“We are thrilled to introduce the Thomond Wind Ensemble to Limerick and the wider Mid-West community,” said Dr Jordan, musical director.
“This ensemble represents the passion and dedication of musicians who have come together to elevate the art of wind band music. Our debut performance will feature an inspiring and diverse programme that highlights the depth of talent in our region.”
The concert will be MC’d by Nigel Dugdale, and the ensemble will be joined by special guests, the Aoide Voices Choir, directed by Owen Gilhooly-Miles, and soprano Emma English.
The ensemble’s first performance will be a concert at the Redemptorist Church on Sunday, November 24 at 3pm.
The concert will showcase a “captivating selection” of pieces, including the iconic Egmont Overture by Beethoven, Shenandoah by Ticheli, Typewriter by Leroy Anderson, and Oblivion by Piazzolla, along with many other works.
Tickets are available at www.eventbrite.ie or on the door. Tickets are €10 for adults and €5 for students and OAP’s.
