Gardaí were involved in the incident in Abbeyfeale on Monday night
A MAN armed with a machete was arrested in Abbeyfeale on Monday night, after gardaí received reports about a burglary and criminal damage.
Gardaí in Listowel, Co Kerry, got the call around 7.45pm on Monday night, July 8, in relation to an incident at a house in Rylane, Abbeyfeale, Co Limerick.
When they arrived on scene, they were encountered by a man in his 30s armed with a machete who was not being cooperative.
He threatened a number of gardaí brandishing the machete, before fleeing the scene into nearby forestry.
Gardaí on the scene called in the Armed Support Unit based in Limerick, the Air Support Unit and Dog Unit for support.
A cordon was put in place and gardaí carried out an extensive search before locating the man a short time later.

The man continued to act aggressively and in a threatening manner towards gardaí.
A garda spokesperson told Limerick Live: "Following an intervention by the Armed Support Unit where less-than-lethal force devices were utilised including the use of a taser, the male (aged in his 30s) was arrested and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Co Kerry."
A number of scenes are still preserved for technical examination and investigations are ongoing.
