LIMERICK man John Geary has this Monday been sentenced to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to the murder of two women and two children in Newcastle West in 2010.

John Geary, 33, of Meadow Court, Newcastle West, was handed down four concurrent life sentences in the Central Criminal Court in Dublin for the murder of his ex-partner Sarah Hines, 25, their five-month-old baby daughter Amy, her three-year-old brother Reece and 20-year-old Alicia Brough at a house in Hazelgrove, Newcastle West on November 15, 2010.

The court heard that the victims received multiple stab wounds each, up to 60 in total, from up to five weapons - including knives and a screwdriver - in the attack.

Geary became “very, very jealous” of Hines’ communications with another man after their “on/off relationship” ended.

The court heard victim impact statements from emotional relatives of the victims, including the mothers of Sarah and Alicia and their siblings.
