Major start-up summit coming to Limerick

LIMERICK is to host a major start-up summit for companies next month.

On Thursday, February 22, company bosses from around Ireland will descend on Shannonside for the third annual Regional Start-Up Summit.

The venue for the event is still to be confirmed. It’s being organised by Scale Ireland, a not-for-profit group which advocates for start-up technology firms.

The summit is being supported by Google, Enterprise Ireland, Atlantic Bridge and Ireland Strategic Infrastructure Fund.

It will feature a wide range of regional-based start-ups and scaling companies including Castletroy-based firm Kneat, Provizio from Shannon, and Yellow Schedule based in Limerick city centre.

The summit will focus on the potential and the challenges facing start-ups and scaling companies around the country.

There are currently more than 2,000 indigenous tech start-up and scaling companies, employing more than 45,000 people in Ireland

Also present at the event will be Dr Briga Hynes, entrepreneurship lead at University of Limerick’s Kemmy Business School, and Professor Stephen Kinsella, who now heads up the immersive software engineering programme at the same college.

Former RTE correspondent Martina Fitzgerald, now chief executive of Scale Ireland said: “Our third Regional Start-up Summit comes at a time when government’s ambition is to position Ireland as a global innovation leader. So this is an important opportunity for tech leaders around the country to debate the significant opportunities of Ireland’s indigenous tech sector to our economic future - a conversation which is of growing importance.”

The two previous regional start-up events have taken place in Cork and Galway respectively.
