COUNCILLORS have agreed to formally lease an old school house building in Limerick to Bruff Scouts.

At this month's council meeting, proposals to have the troupe rent the Old School House at Grange were green-lit.

A nominal fee of €1 a year will be paid, with the lease lasting 35 years.

As well as Bruff Scouts, Grange Irish Countrywomen's Association (ICA) and Bruff Men's Shed will also be named as other occupiers and will use the facility.

Bruff Scouts and Grange ICA have been using the building for the last 30 and 40 years respectively.

New to the rear of the building will be the Bruff Men's Shed.

Their members will occupy a space to the rear of the old school, if planning permission is granted.

They will bring a container on site as a base for their operations, the council's head of property Jayne Leahy stated in a briefing note to members.

The lease agreed between the voluntary groups and the council says that the local authority will take control again if the old school house is used for anything other than activities associated with the three groups.

The plans were initially ‘noted’ by members of the Cappamore-Kilmallock district in April, before being rubber-stamped by the full authority a month after.
