THREE 20-something year-olds show grit and determination to get their music to the fore, and with this idea in mind, they will stop at nothing to reach their lofty goals.
Static Vision, a band whose name, as lead singer and guitarist Cian O'Dowd said, comes from, “an unchangeable vision,” are little by little, entering the mainstream Treaty County music scene, just as they had hoped.
Straight out of the suburbs, Cian believes that his rockstar dream “just [didn't] add up.” Laughing, he adds “I'm 6'7, I'm 12 stone and from the countryside.”
In his youth, Cian saw his dreams of being the next big thing as a fading fantasy, and believes “it was unhealthy to think like that.”
In a trio with his brother Tom and friend Toby, the boys have made their best efforts at propelling their music to the next level, and have had some great successes.
From a sound point of view, Cian says that above all the band “hate being boxed in” as certain genres. “People box us in as a punk band because they don't know how to describe us,” he stated.
Always trying to ameliorate their rhythm and make it pliable, the band sees themselves as primarily rock 'n' roll, with indie sounds in some releases, including their 2019 launch, Faith in the Future.
Recording their sound has proved to be an interesting challenge as “handy-man” Tom has “from scratch, built [their] home garage into a studio.”
A self-sufficient group, the build took over a year and a half to complete, but now gives them complete independence over their music. “For the first time ever, we have full and complete control over everything and that is so important for any artist to have,” the lead singer added.
In a position to be part of the “unbelievable” Limerick music scene, the singer relives memories of busking through the pandemic, previous shows in The Record Room and even their latest gig, supporting punk band Meryl Streek in Dolan's.
After gaining the momentum they need, Static Vision are looking to a prosperous future by releasing more music, with a new not-to-be-missed single, I Got Her Number coming soon to the airwaves.
