MELODIES echoing the land of a thousand lakes come to Limerick with Finnish musician Jenny Räisänen’s new release “In A Whisper”.
Jenny is a singer, songwriter and pianist who has lived in Limerick since autumn of 2021. She completed her Master’s Degree in Songwriting in the University of Limerick in 2022, and also works as a vocal teacher in the university.
Set to release on April 14, Jenny’s song is described as “When the whispers of the North meet the winds of Ireland and mix with the grooves of the world. When the roots of Scandinavian music merge with Afro-American vibes.”
With the use of multiple instruments such as the Finnish kantele, Jenny’s music transcends genres and amalgamates cultures to deliver a masterful creation. “In A Whisper” features soulful singing and elements of pop and folk music.
Lyrically, the song delves into the human psyche and relationships.
“The idea for the song came from a conversation with a friend about fears and how people want to be stronger than they are.
“The song is about a person who wants to take care of others. This person wants to make sure that everyone is safe, but it makes the person obsessive and fearful,” stated Jenny.
The song was created by Jenny with the help of members of her folk band back in Finland, who played other instruments such as the kantele, fiddle, and stomp box and helped with its mixing and production."
As the song was created as part of Jenny’s Master’s Degree, Carl Corcoran and Steve Ryan from the University of Limerick who directed her studies also helped with the production.
Now in Limerick for almost a year and a half, Jenny has settled in well. Initially however, she was surprised by the warm welcome she received. “People are very welcoming and friendly here,” she said.
Another single is set to release in May, and in Autumn the album is planned to fully release. You can follow Jenny’s musical journey from her website at jennyraisanenmusic.com
