PATRICKSWELL Tidy Towns are celebrating their victory in the fourth week of this year’s Going for Gold competition in Limerick.

The Tidy Towns team group now advances to the grand final which will take place later this year.

Feenagh, Tournafulla, Croom, Abbeyfeale, and Garrienderk who did not make it through are still in with a chance of a place in the coveted final as the judges will be selecting a number of ‘wildcards’ following the conclusion of the initial rounds of Going for Gold.

Patrickswell has a group of passionate Tidy Towns members who work smart to keep the town clean and full of nature, making sure to plan their work around the ongoing village renewal scheme works in Patrickswell.

The village has had a focus on keeping wild space areas accessible, along with perennial planting with an emphasis on pollinator friendly plants.

New water butts can also be seen around Patrickswell, providing a sustainable way of keeping plants watered through dry spells. These are some of the reasons as to why Patrickswell was selected as the public choice in the fourth round of the public vote.

This is the final week in the initial round of the Going for Gold Tidy Towns competition which will see six more community groups face off for a chance to win the €10,000 prize.

This week sees Newcastle West, Rathkeale, Oola, Southill, Kilteely and Kilfinane all make their case as to why they should progress.

Representatives of each of the community groups featured this week will be interviewed on Live 95 this Thursday after which the public vote will be open for 24 hours to select this week’s winner.
