Two David Clifford goals send UL into Sigerson Cup semi final as Limerick side beat Queens

Top scorer David Clifford

THE University of Limerick booked their place in the semi final of the Sigerson Cup this Wednesday night.

Kerry All-Star David Clifford scored both goals as UL defeated Queens of Belfast 2-12 to 0-13.

Played in Abbotstown Sports Campus in Dublin, the Limerick side had a goal in either half from Clifford.

UL now join holders DCU, NUIG and Munster TU Kerry (formerly IT Tralee) in the last four.

Managed by Newcastle West's Declan Brouder, UL had beaten IT Sligo and Letterkenny IT ahead of this evening's quarter final with the Ulster side.

Queens, who had Limerick and Na Piarsaigh footballer Gordon Brown at wing back, were 0-8 to 1-4 ahead at half time with Conor Turbitt leading the scoring for the Belfast side.

The Clifford goal came on 12-minutes. He added a point from play and the other first half UL scores came from Donal O'Sullivan frees.

In the second half Clifford again found the net - this time in the 13th minute.

He also kicked three second half points to finish with 2-4 - he scored 2-7 against Letterkenny and 1-4 against Sligo.

O'Sullivan and Emmett McMahon were also among the second half scores for UL, who are captained by Adare and Limerick footballer Paul Maher.
