Highly-rated Limerick swimmer Eoin Corby
A LIMERICK swimmer has powered his way into Friday evening's 200m breaststroke final at the 2025 European Aquatics Under 23 Championships, in Samorin, Slovakia.
Clarina swimmer Corby, of the National Centre in Limerick, won his 200m Breaststroke heat in style, turning at the last 50m in third place to touch first in 2:12.77.

The young Limerick man, who has a personal best of 2:10.50 from 2021, will be the third seed in Friday evening’s final. That final takes place at 6.04pm Irish time.
Corby is trained by John Szaranek.
Eoin Corby agonisingly missed out on the 50m Breaststroke Final on Thursday after a swim-off for the final place. Corby, of National Centre Limerick, and Ukraine’s Maksym Ovchinnikov had both touched in 28 seconds and eighth overall in the heats requiring a swim-off for the final place.
With Corby having swam with the Ireland 4x100m Mixed Medley Relay in between races, it was the Ukrainian who had the fresher legs and got the touch in the swim-off 27.99 to 28.14.
2025 is just the second edition of the European U23 Swimming Championships with Swim Ireland hosting the inaugural championship at the Sport Ireland Campus in 2023, where Ireland topped the medal table with six gold.
With nine Ireland athletes at the European Aquatics Under 23 Championships, this is a final World Championships preparation meet for five athletes who are Singapore-bound, including Corby.
