A CHARITY spinathon has raised over €26,000 for the Children’s Grief Centre in Limerick.

Rugby legends Keith Earls, Peter Clohessy, David Wallace were joined by members of the Limerick Gaelic footballers, Mungret St Pauls GAA and St Munchin’s College 5th year students, among others at the event in Urban One Fitness, who celebrated the launch of their new public gym.

The 12 hour event drew hundreds of community members who collectively raised more than €26,000 for the Limerick city based charity.

The spinathon began at 8am and ran continuously until 8pm, with participants cycling for 20-minutes throughout the day with three bikes minimum in use at any time.

“We wanted to do something that would bring the community together and support a cause that’s close to many people’s hearts,” said Urban One owner Les Byrne.

“The turnout was incredible, and we’re proud to support the Children’s Grief Centre with the  funds raised.”

The beneficiary of the event, the Children’s Grief Centre, a free service, a registered charity, provides vital support for children and young people dealing with  loss through bereavement, parental separation, or divorce. The centre provides a listening ear service for children who have  been bereaved, while also offering outreach school support to local schools in Limerick city, teacher/ professional training and community education programmes.
