LIMERICK hurlers will be aiming to double their points on the Munster Senior Hurling Championship league table this Sunday as they host Tipperary at the TUS Gaelic Grounds at 4pm.
This game is the second part of a double header with the Limerick camogie team facing Waterford at the venue on Sunday at 2pm in the first round of the Munster Senior Camogie Championship.
In the senior hurling championship, it will be Tipperary’s first outing. Limerick ran out winners in a dramatic fashion against Clare, 3-15 to 1-18, in Cusack Park in their first game of the Munster Championship last weekend.
John Kiely’s side showed their class in the final quarter of the game against Clare netting three goals from Aaron Gillane (2) and Donnacha Ó Dálaigh to start their Munster Championship campaign off with a bang.
Despite the battling display which saw them come from nine points down at one stage, Limerick manager Kiely knows the challenge facing his side this Sunday against Tipp.
Speaking after the victory in Ennis last weekend, manager John Kiely said: “We know what is coming to us this Sunday. “Last year when Tipp played us it was only a draw game and we were probably fortunate to get the draw.
“So we have a huge amount to do to improve before next Sunday and that is the bottom line. We have to be better at our puck outs and more accurate at our shooting.
“We gave away an amount of frees and that wasn’t Colm Lyons fault that was our problem so we have to bring the free count down.”
After Sunday's game against Tipperary, the Limerick team will enjoy a two-week before heading to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday, May 11 to take on ‘the Rebels’ at 7pm for their third game in the series.
