Limerick U20 hurlers face crucial Tipp clash in Munster Championship

LIMERICK are aiming to get back on track after a defeat in the opening round of the U20 hurling Munster Championship to Clare last week.

Evan Loftus’ side will face Tipperary this Friday, April 12 in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale at 7pm in the second round of group games in the Munster U20 championship.

Speaking about the defeat to Clare, manager Loftus said: “Look, there are certain aspects of that game we wouldn't have been happy with, but the great thing about how this Championship is set up is we get an opportunity to try and fix a few things seven days later. We are putting the Clare game behind us now and our full focus is on Tipperary now. We are looking forward to the challenge.”

Tipperary will open their Munster Championship run against Limerick this Friday, after getting a bye in the first round of games.

Limerick are going into the match with a loss under their belt, but manager Loftus is hoping home advantage will spur on his side. “Home games are ones that you target and we are looking forward to playing in Limerick.

“Tipperary probably got a chance to sit back and look at us last week, so we don't know what benefits more, us having a game under our belts, or Tipperary coming into this game fresh. We are certainly looking forward to the game and hopefully putting our best foot forward.”

After the Tipperary game this coming Friday, Limerick will have a week's break before facing a trip to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh to face Cork on Friday, April 26, before their final home game of the round robin series on May 10 when they host Waterford. Wins against Tipperary and Cork would be vital to keep their hopes of getting to the Munster Championship semi-final on track.
