Limerick basketball teams gear up for league playoffs

ALL FOUR Limerick basketball teams are gearing up for their individual playoff games which will finish off the 2023/24 season. The top four teams from the North and Southern Conferences in the women's and men's leagues will now face off in the play-offs. 

In the MissQuote.ie women's division one league Limerick Celtics will face familiar rivals iSecure Swords Thunder in the semi-final of the division one league trophy competition on Sunday, March 31at 5:30pm in the AALSA, Dublin. 

The Limerick Celtics women's team have had one of their most successful seasons to date after winning their first ever National Cup final back in January against Abbey Seal Dublin Lions. 

Since then their season has gone from strength-to-strength finishing second in the Southern Conference table with 10 out of 16 wins in the league this season. 

Celtics beat a strong McEvoy's Cavan Eagles by 81-64 in their quarter-final of the division one league trophy. In a separate promotion competition they were just unlucky to loose out to to opposition Swords Thunder, making the league trophy competition even more interesting in two weeks time. 

Despite a stop-start season Limerick Sport Huskies have also qualified for a league play-off, finishing third in the Southern Conference. 

They will face Templeogue this weekend on Saturday at 7pm in Nord Anglia International School in their league quarter-final. 

In the InsureMyVan.ie men's division one league both Limerick teams will be in action in the quarter-finals this weekend. Limerick Celtics finished top of the Southern Conference winning an impressive 15 games and only loosing four the entire season. 

After finishing at the top they will enjoy home advantage this Saturday, March 23 in Crescent College as they host Moy Tolka Rovers at 7:15pm. 

Celtics and Tolka Rovers have already met twice this year with either team getting a win on separate occasions, with the Dublin team knocking Celtics out of the National Cup in an over-time win before Christmas. 

Limerick Sport Eagles are also in action this Saturday at 7:30pm when they face Kavanagh's Portlaoise Panthers in St Mary's Hall.

Eagles finished the regular season in third place in the Southern Conference sending them on an away fixture quarter-final this Saturday.
