ST MUNCHIN'S College suffered a disappointing 45-12 defeat to PBC, of Cork, in their Pinergy Munster Schools Senior Cup semi-final at Virgin Media Park on Wednesday afternoon.

St Munchin's were facing an uphill battle at the mid-point of the well-attended semi-final when trailing 5-33 after their Cork opponents racked up five first half tries.

The game was highly competitive early on with hooker Adam O'Shughnessy scoring a fine try for the Corbally students off a well-executed maul to leave just two points between the sides, 7-5, after seven minutes.

St Munchin's had booked their place in the semi-finals thanks to an impressive 34-17 quarter-final win over Bandon Grammar School at UL North Campus.

An impressive Pres' side tightened their grip on the semi-final in the second half, adding another try to move 38-5 in front.

To their credit, St Munchin's hit back with the next score mid-way through the second half when captain Oisin Minogue dotted down, with Tom Wood adding the conversion for 38-12.

A clinical PBC side were not going to be denied, however, and a late converted try stretched their margin of victory out further.

PBC will now face local rivals CBC in next month's Pinergy Munster Schools Senior Cup final.
