TREATY United’s CEO and co-owner Ciara McCormack is excited about the ‘buzz and energy’ around the club ahead of their men side's opening game in the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland this Friday evening.

Four months on from her appointment as the first female co-owner and CEO of a men’s and women’s club in the League of Ireland, McCormack is facing her first season at the helm.

Speaking about her position McCormack said; “Obviously we have taken over a club that was already in existence, but we are putting in a lot of new structures and for us we have been on a steep learning curve in terms of getting a grasp of everything operationally.

“It has been a pretty short window in preparation for a brand new season amongst the craziness of the whole new takeover, but we are really looking forward to the first game of the league.

“Tommy Barrett and his team have brought some incredible players in and we are aiming to compete strongly this year.” McCormack is no stranger to the playing pitch and made eight appearances for Ireland between 2008 and 2010 before signing for Treaty in 2023.

The Canadian-born defender has always prided the work of the volunteers that have come before and still work tirelessly to keep the show going at the Markets Field.

McCormack went on to add: “The volunteers in the club have always been available to help and continue to be an immense part of the club. I think, since the takeover, everyone has come together extremely well and you can almost sense this excitement around the place. It’s just amazing to see.”

The club has put a major push on fan engagement. Most recently, Treaty Utd unveiled a new home playing kit which sees the move back to the blue colour that is most generally associated with the long, storied history of senior football in Limerick.

A change to blue jerseys from August 1943 onwards has seen the colour become closely linked with senior football in Limerick, and the club have acted on the wishes of supporters by changing the home kit colours going forward back to blue.
Engagement has been one of the McCormack's top priorities since coming into the role as CEO.

“It has almost been an advantage to me as I have come in with no background and possibly not much knowledge. I have come in with a lot of optimism and a sense of what this club could be,” Ciara McCormack said.

“Obviously you are dealing with a city that has had a pretty up-and-down history with senior soccer and clubs.

“I totally understand that there is a lot of cautious optimism around everything, but for us leading this it’s such an exciting challenge. By changing the colour of the jersey and listening to the fans, hopefully we are building trust and trying to get people backing the team.”

Going into her first season as the CEO of Treaty United, McCormack's main hope is to have created ‘an amazing buzz and excitement in Limerick surrounding soccer.’

“I want to do everything necessary to build a good foundation and to draw new fans into the club. I want everyone to enjoy Treaty,” Ciara McCormack added.
