LIMERICK FC manager Stuart Taylor has revealed that he hopes to bolster his squad with the addition of another couple of signings before the start of the Airtricity League Premier Division season.
The Blues are set to shortly announce their first signing of 2014, a midfielder, having agreed terms with the player. Limerick FC began pre-season training over the weekend with a double session at LIT on Sunday morning, followed by another session on Monday. Recent signings, midfielder Shane Duggan and defender Michael Leahy, were also introduced to their new teammates as pre-season began.
Manager Taylor said: “I’m comfortable and happy, we’ve got a good squad of players. We’ve got good competition for places across the back five and we’ve got quality there.
“It’s the same as the forward line. There’s a lot of pace, strength and guile as well which is important.
“In the middle of the park, we’ve just agreed terms with another midfielder. That’s looking good. I wouldn’t say we’re finished with signings as of yet – we’re hoping to get maybe another couple in.”
During Sunday’s opening day of pre-season, the Limerick FC players underwent numerous tests as part of an eight-week programme in the build-up to the Premier Division kick-off at home to Bray Wanderers on Friday, March 7.
Manager Taylor said that it had been a ‘good session’ and that he and his backroom team can now map out how players will reach ‘top condition’ based on the results of their tests.
“It was good to have all the boys together again and we had a hard shift,” 39-year-old Taylor told LimerickFC.ie
“It was a good session. It was a testing day, really, and we got through all our tests and we can certainly go and work from now. We know where we stand with everyone and we can go and set out our sessions from now. Everybody was in good condition and looking good physically, and mentally everybody was in good spirits.
