Limerick sprint hurdler Sarah Lavin, of Emerald AC, on her way to winning the women's 100m during the 123.ie National Senior Outdoor Championships at Morton Stadium
HIGHLY-RATED Limerick sprint hurdler Sarah Lavin begins her quest for 100m hurdles glory at the World Athletics’ Championships on tomorrow, Tuesday, evening.
Lisnagry hurdler Lavin will compete in the first round heats of the 100m hurdles in Budapest from 5.40pm Irish time on Tuesday, live on Virgin Media TV and BBC TV.
Should the ultra-consistent Lavin, of Emerald AC, progress through her first round, she would return to action for the semi-finals of the women's 100m hurdles at 7.40pm Irish time on Wednesday.
The final is due to take place at 8.25pm Irish time on Thursday evening. Lavin set her fifth PB in six days earlier this month in Bern, Switzerland at the Citius Altius meeting where, after setting a lifetime best in the heats of the 100 metres hurdles of 12.72 seconds, she improved to 12.67 in the final in which she was fifth.
It left Lavin within .02 of a second outside the Irish record of 12.65 set by Derval O'Rourke when she won the silver medal at the European Championships in Barcelona in 2010.
Lavin is joined on the Ireland team at the World Athletics Championships by her Emerald AC team mate Roisin Harrison who will compete in the 4x400m relay events in the Hungarian capital. A total of 24 Irish athletes will take to competition alongside over 2,000 athletes from 200 countries.
