Limerick's Rep of Ireland international defender Claire O'Riordan is joining Standard Liege in Belgium next season
LIMERICK defender Claire O'Riordan is joining Belgian giants Standard Liege next season.
O'Riordan, who is currently with the Republic of Ireland women's squad in Brisbane ahead of the start of the World Cup next week, is swapping life with Scottish side Celtic for football with Belgian side Standard Liege.
Standard Liege are current Belgian Women’s Cup champions and finished third in the league last season.
Newcastle West woman O'Riordan enjoyed an excellent season with Celtic and was rewarded for her form by being included in the Rep of Ireland squad for the World Cup in Australia. O'Riordan scored a crucial goal in Celtic's Scottish Cup final success.
Twenty eight-year-old O'Riordan scored her first international goal against Zambia in a friendly last month. The game against Zambia saw West Limerick woman O'Riordan win her 19th international senior cap since her debut against Hungary in March 2016.

O'Riordan is one of two members of the Rep of Ireland World Cup squad joining Standard Liege next season as striker Amber Barrett had earlier announced that she is moving to the Belgian club after the World Cup.
Multi-talented Claire O'Riordan has played camogie and Ladies Gaelic football for Limerick - she played camogie with Newcastle West and Ladies Football with Monagea.
After impressing in the colours of Newcastle West Rovers and Newcastle West AFC, O'Riordan then made her name in the Women's National League with Wexford as a striker. There, the highly rated O'Riordan won league titles and the FAI Cup.
She converted to centre back following her move to Germany with Duisburg in 2018 and has since been a regular in Republic of Ireland women's senior squads. The game against Zambia was her 19th international senior cap since her debut against Hungary in March 2016. O'Riordan joined Scottish giants Celtic FC Women from German side Duisburg last summer.
