LIMERICK FC begin a landmark weekend in the club’s history with a crucial top-of-the-table Airtricity League Division One clash at home to Longford Town on Friday night follwed by Sunday’s glamour friendly with Manchester City at Thomond Park.

And for good measure, Pat Scully’s Limerick FC side travel to Tallaght Stadium to face Shamrock Rovers on Bank Holiday Monday for the semi-finals of the EA Sports Cup.

Manager Scully is aware that the priority for Limerick is to gain promotion from Division One and his main target over the weekend is a positive result against Longford.

“We have to focus on the Longford game and prepare properly for it.

“They beat us at home already this year, and deservedly so, and we have a desire to show that was only a one-off result.

“It’s a great chance for us to get three points to increase our lead, but we know that they have a good team.”

The high profile visit from Man City, which marks the 75th anniversary celebrations for Limerick FC, is almost 21 years to the day since a Niall Quinn-led City team defeated Limerick in a friendly in Thomond Park.

More than 12,000 tickets have already been sold for Sunday’s game.

City’s England International Goalkeeper Joe Hart sees the game as in important part of the club’s pre season preparations and is eagerly looking forward to running out at Thomond Park.

Joe Hart said: “All the lads at Manchester City are really looking forward to our visit to Ireland.

“Thomond Park is a really historic stadium and I’m sure the people of Limerick will give us a great greeting for the game.”

Tickets for Sunday evening’s game between Manchester City and Limerick FC are priced between €10 and €30. Members of the public can buy tickets from Thomond Park, Limerick FC Club Shop, Gleeson Sports Store, Ticketmaster and all Ticketmaster outlets. Family and group discounts are also available.
