Prayers are being said for the Limerick fighter who was critically injured in the boxing ring on Saturday
ONE Of the last videos that Limerick boxer Lee Reeves made before the fight, in which he was critically injured, sums up his kindness.
The 31-year-old, from Roxboro, sent it to a teenage boy with a rare genetic disorder whose family had invited the boxer to the teen’s surprise 16th birthday party.
“I am wishing you a massive happy birthday this weekend,” said Lee in the video.
“I am sickened I can’t be there but I have to get to Dublin, make weight and fight a guy on Saturday. Other than that I would be having coffee and cake at the birthday. Wishing you the best of luck and see you soon, champ,” he poignantly said.
Lee was stretchered from the ring and rushed to Beaumont hospital following his knockout defeat to Gary Cully in Dublin on Saturday night. He underwent surgery on his brain and was placed in an induced coma.
A spokesperson from Queensberry Promotions, who put on the fight night in the 3Arena, said on Sunday: “Lee Reeves is still in hospital, in a critical but stable condition. We will know more in the coming days, and our thoughts and prayers remain with Lee and his family.”
There has been no official update since then but it is understood he remains in an induced coma this Wednesday.
Queensberry are in daily contact with Lee Reeves’ management team and will be making a substantial private donation to Lee personally.
Countless well wishes have been expressed for the full recovery of the Limerick city man who is known far and wide for his kindness and support of important causes.
