Incredible sum donated in less than 24 hours for Limerick boxer Lee Reeves

‘Lee Reeves has given back to so many in his life, supports charities and his community in Limerick, and is one of our own’
A GOFUNDME campaign has raised over €32,000 in less than 24 hours for Limerick boxer Lee Reeves.
The 31-year-old Roxboro man remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital this Tuesday after he was knocked out in the 10th round of a punishing fight with Gary Cully in the 3Arena in Dublin on Saturday night.
Reeves was stretchered from the ring and rushed to hospital. It is understood he underwent surgery and was placed in an induced coma.
Jonathan O’Brien, who set up the GoFundMe on Monday, said he set it up to help raise as much as possible for Lee Reeves and his family to help cover his medical costs and recovery expenses. The link to donate is here
“It is also to give his family a hand out with their expenses too. Lee Reeves has given back to so many in his life, supports charities and his community in Limerick, and is one of our own.
“A genuine good-hearted man, I know he would appreciate all our kindness and support . Let’s go champ, this is your final round,” wrote Jonathan on the GoFundMe appeal.
Donations have flooded in including from Jonathan who donated €1,000 as did Supermac’s in Roxboro.
His opponent Gary Cully said on his Instagram page that he will put up a post addressing the fight in the days to come but “right now, my thoughts are with Lee and his family - just praying for his full recovery”.
Countless well wishes have been expressed on social media for the full recovery of the Limerick city man. Reeves is known far and wide for his kindness and generosity and support of good causes.
One post on social media by Project Believe Community Events perfectly captures the esteem that Reeves is held in.
“We’re all thinking of our friend Lee Reeves and his family at this difficult time, and keeping Lee firmly in our prayers as he remains in hospital. He is much loved across our Limerick communities for the kindness, support and volunteering he has always given so freely whenever he could, and for always encouraging young kids to believe in following their dreams.
“Please keep Lee in your prayers as he remains in a critical but stable condition. So many people are sending him strength, love and positive energy right now. We’re all rooting for him and wishing him the very best possible recovery. Stay strong, ‘El Champo’ - we’re with you every step of the way.”
