"It's a big day for everyone and every year and final is different, but you just hope that you turn up on the day and play well. Regardless of the results with this bunch you can't be but happy. Every single training we have had from the end of January until now has been a joy, the girls are a pleasure to coach so we hope all the time and effort they have put in will stand to them."
This was manager John Horgan of Mungret St Paul's intermediate ladies football team's response to his sides county final against Knockainey tomorrow afternoon in Cappamore.
The intermediate final at 1pm, which will take place as double-header of county finals with the senior game taking place at 3:30pm, will be a hugely exciting contest between two young teams well able to run the ball and work it through the hands right from the kick-outs.
Mungret St Paul's produced some incredible scoreline's in the group stages of the championship, topping group two of the intermediate campaign.
In the knock-out stages they overcame Athea, 5-14 to 0-9, before facing a stern test in Fr Casey's in the semi-final. Mungret just about got over the line with a two-point victory to book their place in this year's final.
Speaking about overcoming Fr Casey's John went on to say: "We were probably a little bit under cooked going into the Fr Casey's game due to some of the teams just coming up to this level in the group games and finding their feet a little. We weren't 100% against them but we feel like we have improved because of that game.
"Sunday will be no different we will all have to be on our A game to beat Knockainey and we will give it our absolute best, but a final is there to be won. The girls are in good form and everything is going according to plan, but anything can happen in a final."
