Teams lay down a marker in opening round of Limerick ladies football club championship

The championship for senior, intermediate and junior clubs got going over the weekend

THE Limerick ladies football championship got started over the weekend with teams laying down their markers in this year's championship campaign. 

In the 3Dental Limerick senior ladies championship three time champions Monagea started their championship as they mean to go on with a 2-6 to 0-7 victory over Dromcollogher Broadford. Last year's finalists St Ailbes also got off to a winning start with a confident 0-14 to 0-6 win over Ballylanders. 

The big upset of the opening round of senior championship was newcomers to the grade Galtee Gaels one-point win over Old Mill on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-14. No winner could be crowned between Oola and Feohanagh/Castlemahon who drew 1-12 to 2-9.

In the 3Dental intermediate championship Mungret St Paul's were the only team to receive a bye in the first round. Knockainey had the most impressive win of the weekend with a 3-16 to 1-4 victory over Athea. 

Elsewhere Fr Casey's emerged 2-12 to 2-7 victors over Murroe Boher while Adare had a fantastic two-point win over St Brigids, 1-10 to 1-8. 

In the junior A championship Pallasgreen has an incredible opening round win with a magical scoreline of 11-8 to 0-5 win over St Ailbes. 

Monaleen made club history as their fielded their first ladies team in over ten years as they club made the change from Goordy Gaels to Monaleen. They also came away with the win over Ahane, 2-13 to 2-9. St Senan's also gained a win in the opening round over Croom 2-13 go 1-6. 

In junior B only two games took place in the opening round of the championship. Galtee Gaels had a huge victory against Ballylanders, 5-15 to 1-2. Mungret St Paul's also gained a vital two-point win over Oola, 1-9 to 1-7. 

Gerald Griffin game against Monagea and Granagh/Ballingarry's match against Old Mill did not go ahead.
