THE Limerick District League 2025/26 season kicked off under the cloud of an FAI investigation. The entire Limerick District League committee were issued stand-down orders by the FAI in June.

Consultancy company RSM were appointed to conduct a ‘fact-finding’ review of ‘governance concerns but the case has now concluded without any sanctions being imposed.

It is now expected that an emergency general meeting will be convened in early January to formalise a new committee, including those suspended who wish to be reinstated.

There is relief locally to see an end to matter so attention can return to the playing field, although it’s unlikely to be the end of the matter.

The FAI Junior Cup will kick off early in the New year with the final scheduled for October 2026. We still await details of how this will work out in relation to players switching clubs in the LDL’s off-season.

In The Munster Junior Cup, the remaining LDL sides in the last 16 are Geraldines and Regional Utd who will meet for a place in the quarter finals, Aisling Annacotty who travel to Killorglin and Pike Rvs who visit Bridge United.

The hugely popular Munster Shield, Granville and Aisling were drawn to meet each other. Elsewhere Balla B travel to Kenmare and Shelbourne travel to Waterloo while Murroe have home advantage versus Avenue B.

The Oscar Traynor team’s Munster Final was postponed on Sunday of last week but will be played early in the new year.

Unfortunately, the Youth side fell at the same stage last Saturday week, going down on a penalty shoot-out to their Cork rivals.

The Premier A League is turning into a thrilling race for honours. Last weekend’s result saw Newport take a slight lead but is still at least a four-way battle with many twists and turns to come yet.

After losing their place in the Premier League last season. Newport look determined for a quick return and with possession of top spot they will be difficult to shift.

Moyross with the vastly experienced Adrian Power on board, are enjoying their football and would love a return to the top flight.

Fellow leaders Kilmallock and Star Rvs have played a game extra. The county side were the early leaders in the race and are still in the thick of the battle.

Star Rvs are another side who would be a welcome addition to the top flight. They have some superb talent and are on an upward swing despite dropping a couple of points last weekend.

The race for promotion in Division 1A is equally tight with any one of four sides capable of taking honours.

Herbertstown lead the way after a 4-2 win over Caherconlish on Sunday. On the same day Shels dropped a brace in a 1-1 draw with Corbally while Murroe closed the gap on the leading two with an impressive 7-0 win over Pallas.

Holycross are also still well in the mix so all is still to be played for.

Balla B lead the way in Division 1B and seem to be getting stronger as the season progresses.

A good Pike side are just three points behind with Nenagh also in the mix.

Hyde Rgs have a five-point advantage in Division 2A but the trio of Brazuca United, Herbertstown and Lough Dertg will not give up anything easy.

Division 2B looks to be a three-way battle between Caherdavin Celtic B, Fairview Rgs and Mungret Reg while you feel Murroe C, Shelbourne B and Athlunkard C will determine the Division 3A winners.
