A host of Limerick athletes have produced excellent performances both at home and abroad.

Awards Season

LIZ Leonard was named Kilmallock AC Athlete of the Year in recognition of her consistency in various Marathons and Half Marathons the past year, which included some age-category prizes.

Maria McCarthy was named Young Athlete of the Year. Maria won medals at the Munster Indoor Championships and Limerick Community Games and was a deserving recipient.

AGM

Mossie Woulfe was re-elected Chairman of Limerick County Athletics Board. Amongst the motions passed was the top finishers in the County Cross Country Championships are now to receive medals.

Abroad

Ted Mango, of the Back 2 Boston, celebrated his recent 50th birthday by breaking the elusive 3-hour barrier in the Malaga Marathon in a time of 2 hours 59 minutes, well done Ted.

Parkrun

Congratulations to West Limerick members and club coaches Gillian O'Regan and Val Sheehy who were involved in setting up the new Junior Parkrun in Adare. The inaugural event took place on Sunday at the Manor Fields and was a great success
with 76 runners taking part.

It's great to have another local parkrun event available in West Limerick, and especially as the only Junior Parkrun event in Limerick County, outside of the city. The event will take place at the Manor Fields every Sunday at 9.30am.

On Saturday last, Killian Lynch was first finisher at Limerick Parkrun at UL in a time of 16.07 just 6 seconds off the male course record which was set in 2019. Well done Killian!

Also at UL, Grace O’Brien, a Junior (11-14) from Derg was first female in an incredible 18:50, with Kevin Johnson (Dooneen) 17:10, Rian Kiely Keogan (Limerick AC) 18:27. JJ Cremin, of An Bru, was first in Mungret in a time of 19:59.

1975

Clare Man Joe Scanlon representing Galway City Harriers won the Limerick AC hosted ‘Round the Houses’ event in the city.

Irish International Sheila Morrissey from Kildare won the Women’s event.

Training Tip

Fixtures

The Michal Rejmer 10 Mile 2026 hosted by Dooneen AC takes place on Sunday, March 30 from Limerick Racecourse. Entry is €30 through Eventmaster. Bespoke Medal plus T-Shirts for first 250 entries.

Limerick Parkrun at the University of Limerick have announced additional dates on Christmas Day, December 25 and New Year's Day, 9:30am from the University of Limerick Boat Club.

The Tom Walsh Memorial 10K run and 5 Mile walk takes place on Sunday, January 11 in Caherconlish at 12pm. Entries are still available through Eventmaster.

The Run Limerick Series 2025 (consisting of 5k/10K/4 Mile and 10 Mile) is now open for entry through justrace.ie or Eventmaster.
