ON THURSDAY evening the last round of midweek fixtures of this year in the Limerick District League throws up a number of interesting games.

Leaders Fairview Rgs welcome Regional United looking to make it four wins from four games.

Last weekend was too close for comfort for the Champions who were way off the mark at Athlunkard Villa.

They fell two goals behind and had a couple of narrow escapes to avoid going three down before finding their form.

They responded superbly in the final twenty minutes to record a fine win.

No doubt mangers Mike Shiel and Paul O’Donnell will be delighted with the win but also aware of what needs to be fixed.

Regional have only played two games to date and are still awaiting their first win.

They will get nothing easy against a Fairview side that look fitter and sharper than most sides at this time of the season.

Ballynanty Rovers are three points behind Fairview bit have played a game less. They will be determined to keep pace with the leaders when they host Nenagh AFC.

The Tipperary side posted their first win last weekend with a 6-0 win over Corbally Utd. They have added some exciting talent to the squad including former Pike youth players Aaron Cusack and Pa Steed.

Speaking of good signings, Balla have pulled a real gem with the addition of Vinny Ryan.

The former Pallas Utd player was a starter with the Oscar Traynor side and has shown already this season that he will prove a big hit in the top-flight.

Pike Rvs also have a 100% record and on Thursday they travel to Aisling Annacotty.

Pike have already beaten Regional and Geraldines and didn’t play last weekend. They will be buoyed by the form of Dylan Kelly-Higgins and Dylan Murphy and will be hoping to keep their winning run intact.

Aisling have been slow out of the traps but seem to be finding their feet. Conor Mulvihill has settled in neatly with three goals in the last couple of games. Several new signings will take time to settle in, but the signs are positive.

Mungret Regional are unbeaten after three and they will be expecting to keep that run going when they host bottom side Hyde Rangers.

Paul Danaher has a relatively settled side and will be excited by the current form of striker Cian McNicholas.

Hyde’s preparations were thwarted when several players opted to move on. To their credit, Ken Keating and Co have been attempting to rebuild the side and performances in their last couple of outings gives them reason to be more positive.

Janesboro are the only other side yet to drop a point, albeit they have only played one game. On Thursday they host an Athlunkard Villa XI, surely still hurting from last weekend’s defeat.

Villa can take heart from their performance, which would have been enough to beat most sides. Unfortunately for them a super fit Fairview were their opponents.

Boro have a number of new signings which promises exciting times ahead but their old reliable Shane Clarke kicked off the season with a hat trick, which will be bad news for other sides in the league.

Geraldines recorded their first win last weekend when they beat Hyde Rgs with a couple of late goals. They will enter the fray at home to Corbally Utd as favourites as the new boys learn to adjust to the speed of the top flight.

In Division 1A, leaders Shelbourne will be looking to maintain their advantage when they visit Corbally Utd.

Hoping they slip up are Granville Rangers who can take top spot if results go their way while

Herbertstown A will be looking to maintain their 100% record when Holycross visit.

Something has to give as two teams with a 100% record meet in Division 1B when Ballynanty Rovers B v Mungret Regional B while in Division 3A, joint leaders Athlunkard Villa C and Shelbourne B meet in Rathuard.
